I am a qualified counsellor & psychotherapist practising individual therapy in Dublin. I hold an Honours Masters Degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy from The Irish College of Humanities & Applied Sciences (ICHAS). I also have an honours undergraduate degree in psychology from Dublin Business School obtained in 2012. I am a pre accredited member of The National Association of Professional Counselling & Psychotherapy (NAPCP).
I am trained in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy which means I do not follow one particular discipline or school of thought. Rather than a 'one size fits all' approach I find it more beneficial to integrate a range of different theories and techniques based to the individual client's needs. These include but are not limited to Humanistic counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness based Therapy, Gestalt therapy and Psychodynamic theory.
Types of Therapy
Humanistic Therapy
Humanism is a very positive approach to therapy, focusing on a person's own personality and values. Emphasis is put on one's own positive traits and behaviours in an attempt to grow and develop within themselves.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
This approach is founded on the idea that thoughts and their connected feelings cause behaviours. You can learn skills to identify and adapt unhelpful thoughts to lead to more productive behaviours.
Mindfulness based Cognitive Therapy
MBCT is a modified form of CBT that incorporates mindfulness excercises such as deep breathing and meditation. This practice allows client's to break away from negative or anxious thought patterns.
Gestalt Therapy
A very client focused approach that is heavily based on how you feel in the present moment, but brings in aspects of the past in order to heal. Techniques in Gestalt therapy may include role playing, and dream analysis.
Psychodynamic Therapy
An in depth form of talk therapy based on the client's relationship with his or her external world. This is done by building an awareness of the origin of one's difficulties.
